Kitchen sale
We unloaded my dad’s kitchen and there is still way more to go through.
We were able to fill the back of the truck!
I had started putting stuff out on the lawn to make it go faster. stuff like this takes forever!

Garage sales for october
I have been away fro a while because I was hit with a sudden illness. In that time there have been garage sales and trips! So here I am sharing some of my adventures!
I went with some friends to Universal Studios park for their haunted hause stuff. We got to up close to the psycho house which was really cool! They had it lit up and available for pictures.
We sold this car canopy one more heavy item gone!
I thought the dumpster was going to take more weeks. Turns out we got it filled in one! My dad filled it with some more items after this not by much.
We sold this tricycle after a few people asking for it.
The garage to another house we are working on emptying and having our garage sales at. All of this was for our first garage sale of the month. We had been filling this house till it had no more room.
A 1948 roadmaster buick horn from a car my grandma crashed.
My great grandmother’s kitchen set we are currently trying to sell.
This was for a garage sale where I live. I took all these items hoping the proceeds would go to our underfunded hoa. It helped a little. Unfortunately, the items I hope would be key didn’t sell.
This is just some ugly thing my dad and found and wants to keep.

I went with my mom to see the Rise of the Pumpkins. I thought they would be more sculptural, but it was still cool.
Dumpster week 1
This is a combination of three days of work. I like to start a with a picture of where we are going to start to get the day going. It really does feel good to get rid of this junk.
This is all under the overhang.
It would be nice sometimes if the stuff we threw out was light…but dreams are just that.
This is how far the garage opened up to the first time. Luckily the garage doors do work.
This is how we found the piles of carpet and wood.
Under the canoe we found a ton of lawn mowers.
This is scooter I put out for free and got an incredible response. We gave it to a really nice family who came to meet us.

So now we are down to carpet. It is o incredibly heavy. It’s shag carpet from the 70’s. So we attempted to cut it in half. The struggle was great.

We also found a rod iron door.
Then we found this nice ladder underneath all the carpet.

Last bit of effort before the end of the week. Nice nasty gold chair from the 70’s. This is a dumpster after four days of work….
I think the biggest thing people should take away from this kind of stuff or situation is that keeping stuff because you think you might need it later becomes a burden really fast. If it overwhelms you it’s not worth it.
Getting to the back
We actually got a dumpster for a while to get start getting rid of all the boxes! I have been waiting for this for a while to really break some ground.
This pile of boxes was not as bad as it looks thankfully. Here I am breaking it in.

We opened the back garage for the first time in decades! There are three cars in here.

My grandfather used to pick up these hard balls that fall from the tree. He kept boxes and boxes of them for some reason.
He also made these sunglasses with a review mirror for when he went bike riding.

end of the week
This day was a little more slow pace then last time. We didn’t have nearly as much furniture to move. Last wednesday we moved 2 couches, a coffee table with matching side tables, a wooden love seat, and some wicker furniture.
Friday we just moved a writing a desk and two night stands. We actually were able to fill up about four trash cans worth of magazines and newspapers. I’m hoping that next week we will be able to dump a lot of empty boxes. So next week will be super busy!

We found a door that opens to the backyard through the garage. But first we have to throw out all the stuff blocking the way!

Another day
Nice California sunset a few weeks ago.
The sky was really beautiful that day…
Last time I went to the lake I caught a nice big mouth bass. The lake looks more full then usual so I’m pretty happy about that.
So for working on the garage this is how the day started.
This section is what we are currently tackling. trying to get rid of all this old furniture. Apparently some of it was my great aunt Lola who put big gold wheels on her couches.

Found some old ads that were in the late 80’s. I found one that was Oct. 21, 1988.

The Hoard
After a long time coming, my father and I decided that we are going to make cleaning the mess my grandfather left us, our full time jobs. To make this experience interesting and perhaps educational for some I’m going to attempt to document it.
To understand why there is certain junk in this house you have to understand my grandfather. He was a very unpleasant person and he could not have enough stuff. He used to say “Don’t throw it out, I’ll find a use for it.”
He found a way to stuff his house. One of the classic hoarder items that he had was millions of newspapers.
here is an example of a trash can filled to the brim of newspapers and my father carrying newspapers to the neighbors trashcans. (we have permission, it was trash day and the trucks were coming shortly)
This small room is crammed with furniture newspapers, boat rudders, etc….The wall behind the chair was shelving that was so stuffed the papers it almost looked like an interior design decoration.
Is the beginning, In this part of the garage we found 20 bicycles behind this junk, a bicycle made to look like a motorcycle, scooter, furniture and so much more.
We got through a lot of the pile and opened up this hole and found more newspapers we get to dig out for the furture. And yes that is a boat, there are like at least 5 above our heads.

This is a bonus story of my one night coming to the house by myself. It was eerily quiet and in the distance of the dark I could see a face….
I hope will consider following this story, it’s a family story and hopefully give insight to what happens when a hoarder leaves and the life you have to clean up. it has definitely made me think about what I own. There is a lot more rooms and stuff I haven’t shown, but we can only take care of so much of what we can.
